Serviced Office Spotlight: O2Work – A Green Workspace Where You Can Even Get Vegetables

date of update:2025.03.24

In our column series "Serviced Office Spotlight", we highlight and introduce unique serviced offices across Singapore, based on the observations and experiences of our team.

This time, we’re excited to feature O2Work—a one-of-a-kind office space that has indoor vegetable growing systems to enhance air quality and create a healthier, greener office environment.

Stay tuned as we dive into the details of what makes O2Work so special.

O2Work Overview

O2Work was founded in 2019 by Robert Li and two other co-founders with a clear mission: to create a healthy, green, relaxing, and oxygen-filled environment for working professionals.

Guided by the philosophy of “Wellness at Work,” O2Work places a strong focus on the well-being of its users, believing that a better work environment leads to better work outcomes.

As the name suggests, “O2” refers to oxygen—a key element in their approach to workspace design.

By integrating nature into the office environment and prioritizing air quality, O2Work strives to redefine what a modern office can be.

Today, they operate three serviced office locations across Singapore:

・Odeon Tower
・Collyer Quay Centre (former Income@Raffles)
・77 Robinson Road

The Story Behind O2Work’s Founding

The idea for founding O2Work began during an MBA class.

After working in the steel trade industry in China for more than 20 years, founder Robert Lee traveled to Singapore in 2011 in search of new business opportunities.

(Robert Lee, founder / from O2Work website)

To build his local network, he enrolled in the Executive MBA program at the National University of Singapore (NUS) from 2012 to 2014.

Through the program, he connected with many NUS alumni, broadening his understanding of Singapore’s business landscape.

During this time, Lee met with executives from M Grass Ecology and Environment Group, a company focused on ecosystem restoration and seed technology.

That meeting sparked his interest in sustainability and led him to launch M Grass International in Singapore, a company specializing in indoor ecology.

In 2016, as the coworking industry began to gain traction, Lee started looking for new office space.

It was during this search that he recognized a fresh business opportunity—one that would eventually evolve into O2Work.

From Houseplants to Indoor-Grown Vegetables

In 2019, Lee and his two co-founders officially launched O2Work, initially creating a coworking space filled with ornamental plants to provide a green, oxygen-rich environment.

While the abundance of houseplants helped create a refreshing atmosphere, Lee soon realized that traditional potted plants could sometimes disrupt the visual harmony of the space.

Looking for a more aesthetically pleasing and functional alternative, he began researching hydroponically grown vegetables.

After many rounds of trial and error, the team succeeded in developing their own hydroponic systems under the brand name SINGRASS.

These systems are now installed throughout O2Work’s locations, becoming a signature feature of the office.

Vegetables, especially those with large surface areas, are known to purify the air more effectively through photosynthesis.

By incorporating hydroponically grown vegetables into the workspace, O2Work has created an environment that is not only visually lush but also rich in clean, high-quality air.

O2Work Features and Locations

So far, we’ve covered the background and founding story of O2Work.

Now, let’s take a closer look at its key features and the details of each location.

Features

One of the most distinctive aspects of O2Work is its integration of hydroponic systems within the office space, where vegetables are actively grown indoors.

This not only contributes to improved air quality through photosynthesis, but also adds a vibrant touch of greenery to the work environment.

What makes this initiative even more unique is that the harvested vegetables are shared with all users.

When the hydroponic systems were first introduced, some members were unsure about receiving vegetables from their workplace.

However, it didn’t take long before many began enjoying the idea and happily taking fresh produce home.

O2Work also emphasizes air quality monitoring.

Each location is equipped with a display that tracks real-time air quality, demonstrating the company’s serious commitment to creating a healthy workspace.

In 2020, O2Work received the prestigious Gold Plus certification under the BCA-HPB Green Mark for Healthier Workplaces, a joint initiative by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Health Promotion Board (HPB).

This certification recognizes workspaces that go beyond design by actively promoting wellness and sustainability.

O2Work earned this distinction through the smart use of natural light, systems to ensure high indoor air quality, and strong efforts toward environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

As a result, O2Work became the first shared office in Singapore to receive Gold Plus certification—a reflection of its forward-thinking approach to workplace wellness.

Let’s begin with an overview of each O2Work location, starting with O2Work at Odeon Tower.

O2Work Odeon Tower

This office is located within Odeon Tower, a 23-story commercial building situated in a central and highly accessible part of Singapore.

It’s a convenient 7-minute walk from both City Hall and Esplanade MRT stations, and just 9 minutes on foot from Bugis MRT station.

From the common lounge, you can enjoy scenic views of some of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks, including the historic Raffles Hotel and the world-famous Marina Bay Sands.

It’s a work environment where you can stay productive while enjoying the stunning urban landscape.

O2Work 77 Robinson Rd

This is the newest addition to O2Work’s portfolio, having opened its doors in 2024.

The office is located in Robinson 77, a high-rise building situated in Singapore’s Central Business District.

The location offers excellent connectivity, just a 5-minute walk from Shenton Way MRT station and 7 minutes from Tanjong Pagar MRT station.

This shared office was designed around the concept of a small town.

Each corridor is named after a street, and the entire floor is divided into three color-coded zones: red, blue, and green.

This thoughtful layout creates a stronger sense of community and helps foster a feeling of belonging among members, as if they were part of a close-knit neighborhood within the office.

O2Work Collyer Quay Centre (formerly Income@Raffles)

This O2Work location is housed in Collyer Quay Centre, a 37-story high-rise office building situated in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District.

It’s just a 3-minute walk from Raffles Place MRT station, making it highly convenient for daily commuting and client visits.

The common lounge and several private offices offer stunning views of Marina Bay and Marina Bay Sands, adding a premium touch to the work environment.

The common lounge is also designed to serve as a flexible space for events and seminars.

It can be adapted to meet various business needs, such as hosting networking sessions or corporate presentations.
